Writing & Speaking
Integrated tasks gone
No Integrated Writing, no Integrated Speaking. Writing is Build a Sentence, an email and a discussion post; Speaking is repetition and an interview.
Speaking
No preparation time
Both Speaking tasks start the moment the prompt ends. Templates stop helping — memory span and pronunciation move the band now.
Scoring
One 1–6 band scale
Every section is reported on the same 1–6 scale in half steps, so a weak section is visible immediately instead of hidden inside a 0–120 total.

How preparation works here
Sit a full mock test
Ninety minutes, real 2026 order and clock. You get a 1–6 band per section and the routing path you landed on — the honest starting point.
Drill the tasks that capped you
The report names the limiting section. Practice sets for all eleven tasks are timed as on test day, so the fix happens under the same pressure.
Re-mock and watch the band move
Sit another full mock, compare band by band in your history, and keep going until the weakest section clears your target.

The 2026 format
What changed in the TOEFL in 2026?
The test is shorter and partly adaptive. Reading and Listening open on a non-academic routing module whose accuracy decides both the next module and your score ceiling. Integrated Writing and Integrated Speaking are gone, Speaking has no preparation time, and every section is reported on a 1–6 band in half steps. Total testing time is around ninety minutes.
How long is each section?
Reading around 30 minutes, Listening around 29, Writing around 23 and Speaking around 8. Timing varies slightly with the adaptive path you are routed onto in Reading and Listening.
What is the routing module and why does it matter?
It is the first, deliberately non-academic module in Reading and Listening. Score four of six or better and the academic module unlocks along with the 6/6 ceiling. Score below that and you continue on the easier path, where the highest attainable band is capped — so everyday-English practice is not warm-up, it sets your maximum.
Is Integrated Writing really gone?
Yes. Writing is now Build a Sentence, Write an Email and Write for an Academic Discussion. There is no read-then-listen-then-summarise task in either Writing or Speaking.
Scoring and bands
How does the 1–6 band scale work?
Each of the four sections gets its own band from 1 to 6 in 0.5 steps. There is no 0–120 total, so a single weak section is visible to admissions rather than averaged away.
How do 2026 bands compare to old TOEFL scores?
There is no official conversion, but as a planning guide band 5.0 sits roughly where 90–101 did, 5.5 around 102–112 and 6.0 at 113–120. Use the table above to set a target, then confirm the requirement with the institution.
Who scores my Writing and Speaking practice?
Responses are scored automatically against the 2026 band descriptors, with the criteria that moved your band shown per response — pronunciation and hesitation for Speaking, register and development for Writing. Premium members can request a human review on mock responses.
Can I see how my bands change over time?
Yes. Every mock and practice attempt is stored, and band history charts each section separately so you can see whether the section that capped you is actually moving.
Mock tests
Are the 20 mock tests in the official format?
Each mock follows the 2026 section order, task types and timing, including the adaptive routing decision, and reports a 1–6 band per section as the real test does. The material is written by our team to the published specification — it is not reproduced ETS content.
How long does a full mock take?
About ninety minutes of testing plus a short setup. You can pause between sections on practice runs, or take it strictly timed end to end for a realistic rehearsal.
Can I retake a mock test?
Premium members can rescore and retake any of the twenty as often as they like; the routing decision is replayed each run, so a retake is not the same test twice.
Do I need a microphone?
Yes for Speaking — any headset microphone works. Listen and Repeat and Take an Interview both record you, and playback is attached to the band report so you can hear what cost you the points.

What is in the practice section?
A dedicated set for each of the eleven 2026 tasks, with the same instructions and clock as test day. Each set holds hundreds of items, so repeated attempts do not repeat content.
What does the course cover?
24 lessons in five modules: the 2026 format, winning the routing module, academic passages and talks, email register and discussion posts, and Speaking without preparation time. Each lesson ends in the practice set it prepares you for.
How much should I practise before my test?
Most students who move a full band do a diagnostic mock, then four to six weeks of task drills with a full mock each weekend. The band history tells you when the limiting section has actually cleared your target.
Do you support teachers and schools?
